Catalan Separatists Weigh Continued Support for Central Government
The Catalan separatist party Junts is deliberating on maintaining its essential parliamentary backing for Spain's central government. The decision is influenced by a new anti-independence Catalan government led by Salvador Illa and issues surrounding the amnesty law for the 2017 secession attempt participants.
The Catalan separatist party Junts on Friday announced its deliberation on whether to continue its crucial parliamentary support for the central government in Madrid.
The party cited significant changes in the northeastern region, including a new government led by Socialist Salvador Illa, who opposes independence and was confirmed as its leader on Thursday.
Additionally, issues with a law granting amnesty to those involved in the unsuccessful 2017 secession attempt are also influencing the decision, according to Junts' secretary general, Jordi Turull.
