The statehood of Jammu and Kashmir could be restored and assembly elections might take place in October, according to MoS Ramdas Athawale, who made the announcement on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference, Athawale noted that assembly elections are also scheduled for Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand around the same time. He urged residents to vote in large numbers, emphasizing the importance of robust participation.

He praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their large turnout in the recent Parliamentary polls and expressed hope for record-breaking voting in the upcoming assembly elections. Athawale also mentioned that his party, the Republic Party of India, plans to field 10-15 candidates in these elections.

Reflecting on the time of Article 370's abrogation, Athawale noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had promised the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood. Athawale also had a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who assured him of peace and stability in the region despite attempts at disturbance by some elements.

Athawale highlighted the significant efforts made by the administration to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring its progress and prosperity.
