AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday expressed concern over reports of minorities being attacked in Bangladesh and demanded that authorities in that country ensure their protection.

Violence erupted in Bangladesh following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on Monday, leading to at least 232 deaths and extensive vandalism. Media reports indicate that the death toll has now reached 560 since the anti-quota protests began in mid-July.

Several Hindu temples, households, and businesses were vandalised, and women were assaulted. Two Hindu leaders affiliated with the Awami League party, led by Hasina, were killed in the ongoing violence. Reports from Dhaka suggest that the violence increased after Hasina fled the country.

In a post on X, Owaisi emphasized the importance of protecting minorities under international law. He also noted reports that members of Bangladesh's majority community are protecting the homes and places of worship belonging to minority communities, adding that such actions should become the norm.
