China Cautiously Observes Crisis in Bangladesh Amid Political Turmoil
China has responded with cautious observation to the political instability in Bangladesh following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ouster. The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized its hope for a quick return to social stability, noting the significance of recent cooperative agreements between the two nations. Hasina's downfall comes shortly after her visit to Beijing, where bilateral ties were strengthened.
China on Tuesday reacted cautiously to the escalating crisis in Bangladesh, which led to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ouster. Authorities stated they are "closely" monitoring the situation in the violence-hit country.
In a statement responding to media inquiries, the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted, "China is closely following the developments in Bangladesh." The ministry added they hope for a swift restoration of social stability in the country, emphasizing China's role as a friendly neighbor and strategic partner.
The crisis unfolds nearly a month after Hasina's high-profile visit to Beijing, during which China and Bangladesh elevated their relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. The visit included talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang and resulted in 21 agreements being signed. This strengthened relationship underscores Beijing's strategic interests in Bangladesh and broader regional ambitions.
