China Implements New Controls on Fentanyl-Related Chemicals
China plans to introduce regulations on chemicals used to produce illicit fentanyl. This marks the third major counter-narcotics move since the U.S. and China resumed cooperation in November 2023. The White House calls it a valuable step forward.

China announced plans to regulate the production of three chemicals integral to the manufacture of illicit fentanyl, according to a statement from the White House on Tuesday.
This initiative is considered a 'valuable step forward' and represents the third major counter-narcotics measure since the U.S. and China renewed their bilateral cooperation in November 2023, said acting National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett.
The move comes as both nations continue to tackle the growing opioid crisis through collaborative efforts.
