Venezuelan Opposition Leaders Face Criminal Investigation

Venezuela's attorney general Tarek Saab confirmed on Monday the launch of a criminal investigation targeting opposition leaders Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez. The investigation stems from allegations that the leaders incited police and military officials to disobey the law.

Earlier that day, Machado and Gonzalez had issued a public letter urging security forces to support what they assert were their legitimate electoral results from the July 28 election.

Saab emphasized that these actions may constitute serious offenses and undermine the rule of law. The situation remains tense as both sides dispute the election outcome.
