Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh stepped down amidst unprecedented anti-government protests, diplomatic sources revealed on Monday. Hasina landed at the Hindon airbase near Ghaziabad on her way to London.
She arrived in India onboard a C-130J military transport aircraft provided by the Bangladesh Air Force. Uncertainty surrounds whether Hasina's next leg to London will involve the same aircraft or a commercial flight. Hasina aims to visit her daughter, Saima Wazed, a WHO regional director based in Delhi.
No official statement has been released regarding Hasina's brief stay in Hindon. India granted safe passage following a request from Dhaka, and officials are closely monitoring developments in Bangladesh, where the Army Chief announced an interim government amidst ongoing violent protests.
