The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) opposition alliance in Karnataka launched their 'Mysore Chalo' padayatra from Kengeri, Bengaluru, on Saturday. The 10-day march aims to protest alleged scams involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the Valmiki Corporation.
Speaking to ANI, Karnataka BJP General Secretary P Rajeev stated, 'The Congress government in Karnataka has been steeped in corruption from day one. Taxpayer money is being misused for election purposes, and the entire cabinet is engaged in illegal activities, including the diversion of SC, ST funds and the misuse of government funds. The Valmiki corporation's funds are being squandered on liquor, cars, and gold. Therefore, as the opposition, we are taking this very seriously and starting our Padayatra, Mysore Chalo.'
Before commencing the march, BJP state President BY Vijayendra, along with his family, visited the Chamundeshwari temple in Mysore. 'Our 'Mysore Chalo' struggle is not centered on individuals but stands as the voice of the people, aiming to protect their wealth and rights. It is critical to remove the corrupt Congress government from power, and we seek public support in this massive walk to represent the people's discontent,' Vijayendra said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar criticized the padayatra, calling it an attempt to fabricate an issue out of a non-issue. 'Congress wants to ask them what they have done in their tenure. It was the most scandalous government BJP ever had. They are doing padayatra for nothing,' Shivakumar remarked.
Notably, the Karnataka Governor issued a show-cause notice to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on July 27. The notice followed a complaint by social activist Snehamayi Krishna, accusing Siddaramaiah and nine others of forging documents to claim compensation from MUDA. The allegation includes the involvement of Siddaramaiah's family in creating fake documents to obtain valuable plots under MUDA.
