Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday held the Kerala government accountable for ignoring multiple flood warnings that led to the Wayanad landslide tragedy. He revealed that the Centre had issued advance alerts as early as July 23 and dispatched nine NDRF teams to the state the same day.
Shah, addressing the Rajya Sabha, insisted that the central government had acted promptly, and accused the Kerala administration of neglecting these warnings. He reassured that the Modi government stands with Kerala in this tragic moment and promised comprehensive support.
Several opposition members urged the government to declare the Wayanad tragedy a national disaster, criticizing the lack of effective early warning systems. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed the House that 133 bodies have been recovered so far, with the death toll likely to rise.
