Security Lapse at Trump Rally: Secret Service Under Scrutiny
Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe expressed shame over a significant security failure at a Pennsylvania rally where shots were fired at Donald Trump. This admission follows the resignation of former director Kimberly Cheatle and highlights rising concerns about political violence as the November elections approach.
Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe admitted to being 'ashamed' of a major security lapse during a July 13 rally in Pennsylvania where an assassination attempt on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump occurred.
In his prepared testimony before Senate committees, Rowe detailed his visit to the rally site and described seeing where Thomas Crooks fired shots, resulting in one death and several injuries. This comes a week after former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned under bipartisan pressure.
Rowe assured lawmakers of new measures to prevent similar lapses and mentioned an increase in security protections, which now include Republican VP candidate JD Vance and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy. The FBI continues its investigation into the motive behind Crooks' actions.
