Heavy rain continues to batter parts of Saputara in the Dang district of Gujarat as of Monday morning, causing significant commuting issues for locals. In the last few days, consistent downpours have wreaked havoc throughout the state, leading to severe water logging and creating flood-like conditions in several areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued warnings of rain and thundershowers for the next five days across various parts of Gujarat. On Monday, the IMD elevated its alert to an orange warning, predicting light to moderate rain and thundershowers in areas including Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, and many others, along with Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli. Official reports indicate the heaviest rainfall was recorded in Vijayanagar in Sabarkantha, Idar taluka, Petlad in Anand, and Vansda in Navsari, with accumulations reaching up to 1 inch.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set to visit the Dang district on Monday. The visit coincides with the inauguration of the Saputara Megh Malhar Parva 2024, a month-long event organized by the Department of Tourism and Gujarat Tourism to boost local employment and tourism in Saputara, the state's sole hill station. The festival, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, features cultural programs showcasing Dang's indigenous culture and a 'Rain Run' marathon. It will run from July 29 to August 28, 2024.
