Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as a beacon of hope for the 4.4 million Indian-Americans in the United States, according to a Democratic fundraiser. Her campaign for the presidency is experiencing significant grassroots enthusiasm and is yielding tangible results.

Harris, aged 59, announced her bid for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination last week after President Joe Biden opted not to seek a second term. Although she has not been formally declared as the Democratic candidate, her campaign is gaining momentum among supporters.

Ajay Bhutoria, deputy national finance chair for the 'Harris for President, 2024' campaign, emphasized the excitement her Indian origins bring to the community. Bhutoria noted that the Indian-American community, traditionally engaged and influential, could prove decisive in key battleground states.

As of Sunday, the Harris campaign reported raising $200 million and having 170,000 volunteers in just the first week. The high-stakes general election on November 5 will see her face off against former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party's candidate.

Bhutoria said the enthusiasm for Harris is palpable, with fundraising hitting record-breaking levels and volunteers pouring in. He highlighted the significance of this election being decided by a small number of voters in critical states.

He added that Harris represents a robust vision for America's future, emphasizing democracy, reproductive rights, and inclusivity. Bhutoria asserted that choosing Harris would mean opting for progress and unity over division and regression.
