Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party announced on Sunday its plans to hold a nationwide protest next month. The demonstrations are scheduled for August 5, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of Khan's arrest.

The former cricketer-turned-politician was apprehended at his Lahore residence on August 5 last year. His arrest followed a conviction in the Toshakhana case, related to the concealment of state gifts.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser stated that final protest plans would be confirmed in an upcoming party meeting. The protests will address Khan's arrest and the country's inflation crisis. Despite his arrest being suspended, Khan remains detained in another high-profile case.

Qaiser condemned what he described as an official crackdown on PTI members, questioning the legitimacy of Parliament. He threatened nationwide sit-ins if baseless charges against PTI members were not dropped.

PTI's secretary general, Omar Ayub Khan, accused the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of manipulating the judiciary and creating conflicts between PTI and the army. He called for immediate fresh elections to resolve the ongoing political turmoil.
