Former Union Minister Santosh Gangwar has been appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand. Gangwar expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged to uphold the responsibilities of his new role.
The announcement came from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday night. Gangwar replaces CP Radhakrishnan, who has been reassigned as the Governor of Maharashtra.
At his residence, party workers celebrated the news by distributing sweets. Gangwar, 76, thanked the Prime Minister and his constituency in Bareilly for their continued trust and support. An eight-time MP, Gangwar has served in both Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi's governments, and has been a significant figure in the BJP since 1984.
Despite being passed over for a ticket in the latest Lok Sabha elections, the party leadership, including Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, assured he would be given a new role. The Bareilly seat was won by Chhatrapal Gangwar, his fellow BJP member, in the most recent elections.
Gangwar, who began his political career during the Emergency and was jailed at the time, rose through the ranks to influence various sections, particularly in the Kurmi community. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also congratulated him on social media, wishing him a bright future in his new position.
