Former BJP MP from Sultanpur, Maneka Gandhi, has petitioned the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, challenging the election of Samajwadi Party MP Ram Bhuwal Nishad. The petition, filed by senior advocate Prashant Singh Atal on Gandhi's behalf, alleges that Nishad has 12 cases registered against him but disclosed only 8 in his affidavit to the Election Commission.
Gandhi's petition requests the court to annul the election of Ram Bhuwal Nishad. Nishad had defeated sitting MP Maneka Gandhi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Sultanpur seat by a margin of 43,174 votes.
The Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency experienced a triangular contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Samajwadi Party (SP), and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
