BJP president J P Nadda on Friday questioned the Congress party's ability to morally commemorate 'Kargil Vijay Diwas', alleging their involvement in multiple defence-related scams and neglect of armed forces needs while they were in power.
Speaking at an event marking the 25th anniversary of India's victory over Pakistani forces in the Kargil War, Nadda urged opposition leaders to introspect on whether they have turned against the nation's interests in their criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nadda highlighted the Modi government's efforts to bolster border infrastructure for rapid troop movement, modernize the armed forces, and meet long-standing demands such as 'one-rank-one-pension'. He also mentioned Modi's personal involvement during the Kargil war as a BJP senior office-bearer encouraging soldiers.
Nadda also criticized Congress for alleged defence scams during their rule, including Bofors guns and AgustaWestland choppers deals. He questioned whether Congress has the moral standing to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas given these controversies.
Furthermore, Nadda pointed out that the Modi government's 'Agnipath' scheme aims to lower the average age of Indian forces, while accusing opposition parties of engaging in politics at the expense of national interest. He added that 'Agniveers' will be prioritized in central and state police recruitment.
