Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign lodged a complaint with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday, contending that U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris cannot legally take control of funds raised by President Joe Biden's reelection campaign. Biden, an 81-year-old Democrat in a tight race with Trump, had endorsed Harris after ending his reelection bid on Sunday. In response, Harris took charge of Biden's campaign accounts and secured a majority of delegate pledges to wrap up the nomination.

The controversy over the campaign funds, which totaled around $95 million at the end of June, is part of a broader Republican strategy to obstruct Harris' efforts to lead the Democratic ticket. According to a filing by the Trump campaign's general counsel, David Warrington, Harris is purportedly committing what could be the 'largest campaign finance violation in American history.'

Saurav Ghosh, a lawyer at the Campaign Legal Center, maintained that Harris' claim on the funds should be secure, given her role as Biden's vice presidential candidate. The Federal Election Commission stated they could not comment on unresolved enforcement matters. Meanwhile, the Harris campaign reported raising $100 million since Biden's endorsement, dismissing the FEC complaint as a baseless Republican tactic.
