The opposition Congress in Manipur has voiced strong criticism against the BJP-led government at the Centre, alleging neglect of the state in the Union Budget. The state, which has been grappling with severe floods and ethnic violence, was left out of significant aid allocations.
State Congress president K Meghachandra accused the government of a partisan approach. 'There was partiality in the budget. While flood-hit Assam was mentioned, Manipur, which experienced devastating floods and a hailstorm, was ignored,' he stated.
In contrast, Chief Minister N Biren Singh praised the budget's vision for economic growth and development, emphasizing initiatives such as the establishment of over 100 branches of India Post Payment Bank in the North East. The state BJP echoed these sentiments, highlighting commitments to social justice and job creation.
