Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah lack a grasp on the complexities and aspirations of the northeastern region. His comments come in the wake of violence in Manipur, reportedly orchestrated by the group Arambai Tengol against Christians.
'The problem with PM Modi is that he views Northeast states as minor, conflict-ridden territories,' said Gogoi in a post on 'X.' 'His and HM Shah's failure to comprehend the region's intricacies exacerbates conflicts that extend over years, impacting women, youth, and children.'
Gogoi also blamed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for imposing control over 'passive' Northeastern citizens, urging a departure from Modi's leadership for regional peace. 'The RSS does not understand nation-building and prioritizes dominion over fostering trust and cooperation among diverse groups. Moving past PM Modi will be beneficial for Northeast peace,' he stated.
Previously, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had visited Manipur, urging PM Modi to address the region's issues. Gandhi emphasized the Congress and the INDIA bloc's commitment to advocating for peace in Parliament, highlighting the state's persistent division and unrest.
