U.S. President Joe Biden is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday at the White House, according to a U.S. official.

Biden, who has been battling COVID-19 since last Wednesday, is returning to Washington on Tuesday from his beach house in Delaware. Netanyahu will address a joint session of the U.S. Congress on Wednesday. Biden and Netanyahu aim to discuss a potential ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza, along with topics such as Iran.

This meeting will mark Biden's first engagement with a foreign leader since he decided not to seek reelection, instead endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee. Additionally, Harris is set to meet Netanyahu to emphasize the need for the Gaza conflict to conclude with Israel's security, release of all hostages, and the realization of Palestinian dignity, freedom, and self-determination.
