Pakistan's Punjab police on Friday transferred former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. This transfer followed permission granted by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).

ATC-I Lahore Judge Khalid Arshad approved Qureshi's transfer on an application filed by DIG operations, citing concerns about the feasibility of frequent transportation between Rawalpindi and Lahore. Qureshi, who is also the vice-chairman of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was recently indicted in the May 9 riots case.

Qureshi, 68, denies all charges against him. He is accused of abetment in the attack on Shadman police station and other acts of violence during the May 9 riots that erupted following Khan's arrest in a graft case. Despite an acquittal in a separate Cipher case by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Qureshi remains imprisoned due to multiple other charges stemming from the May 9 violence.
