Controversy Erupts Over UP Government's Directive for Food Shops on Kanwar Yatra Route

The Uttar Pradesh government's recent directive mandating food shops on the Kanwar Yatra route to display details of the owner or operator has ignited widespread criticism from opposition parties and several allies of the ruling BJP. A statement from the Chief Minister's office confirmed that all food and beverage shops along the route must now prominently display nameplates with the owner's or operator's identity.

According to the CMO, the measure aims to uphold the sanctity of the Kanwar Yatra, which begins on July 22. The directive also includes action against shops selling halal-certified products, further fueling political debate. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the directive, labelling it as an attack on the Constitution and democratic ideals.

Other political figures, including BSP supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, echoed similar sentiments, decrying the move as a means to create societal division. Despite the backlash, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remains steadfast, insisting the directive is essential for the Kanwar Yatra's peace and security.
