The Congress on Thursday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat's provocative remarks about self-development and human ambition. The Congress described Bhagwat's comments as an 'Agni Missile fired by Nagpur' and directed at Lok Kalyan Marg.
Although the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters is located in Nagpur, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg is the Prime Minister's official residence. The opposition party's criticism followed Bhagwat's musings on man's aspiration to evolve into a 'superman', then 'devta', and 'bhagwan', with unclear ultimate aspirations.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh linked this to a larger ideological divide, calling Modi the 'self-anointed non-biological PM'. Other opposition figures echoed this sentiment on social media.
In a village-level workers meeting organized by Vikas Bharti in Jharkhand's Gumla district, Bhagwat emphasized relentless work for humanity, aligning with his vision of continuous self-betterment and societal contribution.
Bhagwat stated that after achieving human qualities, the aspiration to become superhuman, god-like (devta), or 'bhagwan' leads to the pursuit of 'vishwaroop', an endless journey of self and societal development. He urged continuous effort in areas like environment, education, and health to create a better world.
