BRS leader K Kavitha has been admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital after her health deteriorated while being lodged in Tihar Jail. She is embroiled in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Kavitha was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 11 and by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15. Despite multiple bail attempts, her plea for default bail was deferred for further hearing by the Rouse Avenue court, pushing the date to July 22.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja pointed out that Kavitha's legal team argued the CBI had not filed a complete charge sheet within the mandatory 60-day period, and requested default and interim bail. However, her previous bail applications were dismissed. The court extended her judicial custody until July 18, with her counsel opposing the remand.

The investigating agencies allege irregularities in the excise policy, including undue favours to license holders and substantial financial losses to the exchequer, amounting to Rs 144.36 crore. Alleged illegal gains were diverted to officials and false account entries were made to avoid detection.
