The United States has urged India to leverage its unique relationship with Russia to press President Vladimir Putin to end the 'illegal war' against Ukraine. This appeal was made by State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller during his daily news conference on Monday.
Miller's remarks came in response to questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Moscow and his meetings with President Putin. He emphasized India's longstanding ties with Russia, asserting that the country is in a unique position to influence Moscow and push for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Modi's visit to Russia, his first since the Ukraine war began in February 2022, was closely monitored by the West. During his discussions with Putin, Modi stressed that the Ukraine conflict could not be resolved on the battlefield and called for peace efforts amid ongoing hostilities. India continues to advocate for dialogue and diplomacy, maintaining its strategic partnership with Russia despite the ongoing conflict.
