Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's political director extended his congratulations to J.D. Vance, who was recently nominated as the running mate for Donald Trump's presidential campaign. The director remarked that a 'Trump-Vance administration sounds just right.'
Trump chose Vance, an Ohio senator and staunch conservative, last Monday. This nomination is anticipated to energize Trump's base, particularly in 'Rust Belt' states, ahead of the November 5th election. Vance has previously shown support for several policies implemented by Viktor Orban's nationalist government, including controversial university reforms.
During a February interview with the European Conservative, Vance expressed admiration for Orban's approach to curbing left-wing influence in universities, calling it the closest conservatives have come to addressing the issue. Last week, Orban met with Trump in Florida following the NATO summit where they discussed pursuing peace and a potential ceasefire in Ukraine.
Additionally, Hungary's President Tamas Sulyok held talks with former U.S. ambassador to Hungary, David Cornstein, in Budapest on Monday. They affirmed their readiness to strengthen bilateral relations, according to a statement from Sulyok's office. Cornstein was Trump's ambassador to Hungary from 2018 to 2020.
