Racine Plant Workers Clash Over Biden vs. Trump in Job Security Debate
Workers at CNH Industrial's tractor plant in Racine, Wisconsin, are split over whether Joe Biden or Donald Trump would better protect their jobs from being outsourced to Mexico. The United Auto Workers endorsed Biden, while many workers still support Trump. The debate has created division as the election nears.
At CNH Industrial's tractor plant near Racine, Wisconsin, employees are locked in a 'friendly warfare' over the upcoming presidential election. The debate centers on who, between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, is more likely to save their jobs from being outsourced to Mexico.
CNH has already slashed nearly one-third of the plant's hourly positions and plans to move many remaining jobs south by 2027, raising alarms among the workforce. The United Auto Workers union endorsed Biden in January, pointing to his historical support for labor issues, including joining workers on the picket line during a 2023 auto strike. However, many rank-and-file members remain undecided, reflecting a broader political divide.
Richard Glowacki, head of UAW Local 180's bargaining committee, noted that the plant's workforce is evenly split between Biden and Trump supporters. Despite Biden's pro-union stance, some workers believe Trump is better for reviving U.S. manufacturing jobs. This split underscores the complexities facing Democrats as they strive to regain dominance with industrial union workers in Wisconsin, a critical swing state.
