President Joe Biden warned on Sunday about the risks of political violence in the U.S. following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on Saturday, emphasizing, "It's time to cool it down." In a prime-time address from the Oval Office, Biden stressed that political passions should not lead to violence.

"There is no place in America for this kind of violence — for any violence. Ever. Period. No exception. We can't allow this violence to be normalized,'' Biden declared. He mentioned that he would be campaigning for reelection while the Republican National Convention opened in Milwaukee on Monday.

Biden denounced the attack on Trump as "contrary to everything we stand for as a nation" and announced an independent security review to understand how such an incident could occur. He called on the nation to unite and urged the public not to jump to conclusions about the shooter's motives.

The President directed the Secret Service to review all security measures for the RNC. Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, the Secret Service's coordinator for the convention, assured that the attack did not trigger any security plan changes for the event.

Biden expressed condolences for the family of Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief, who was killed during the Trump rally. The President also disclosed a brief but positive conversation with Trump post-attack, mentioning his gratitude for Trump's recovery.
