The assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump is being described as "a dark chapter" in American democratic history by Indian Americans across the nation. Community leaders have condemned the attack on the presumptive Republican presidential candidate.

Trump, 78, sustained a bullet wound to the upper part of his right ear during an election rally in Pennsylvania when the suspected shooter fired multiple shots. "Today we learned about the attempted assassination of (former) President Trump. This is very sad, and this is not the kind of violence that is expected in a democracy," said Dr. Bharat Barai, an eminent Indian-American community leader.

"People have different political and economic views, which should be expressed at the ballot box,'' Barai emphasized. He strongly condemned the extreme hate that led to the attack. Jesdip Singh Jassee, chairman of Sikh Americans for Trump, echoed this sentiment, stating, "It's a dark chapter in American democracy. We are praying for his safety and recovery and appeal to America to unite behind President Trump." Ajay Bhutoria, Democratic Party deputy national finance chair, called for a thorough investigation into the incident, suggesting that a foreign entity might be behind it to sow discord among Americans. Al Mason, a New York-based real estate investor, expressed confidence in Trump's resilience, while Hindus4Trump emphasized solidarity with Trump, condemning the violence and division.
