On Saturday, BJP's Kamlesh Shah clinched victory in the Amarwara (ST) assembly constituency bypoll in Madhya Pradesh, defeating Congress contender Dheeran Shah Invati by a margin of 3,027 votes. The close contest saw Shah secure 83,105 votes while Invati garnered 80,078 votes, as confirmed by a poll official.
This win marks the BJP's first success in the Amarwara constituency since 2008, when Premnarayan Thakur narrowly defeated GGP's Manmohan Shah Bhati. Incidentally, both Thakur and Shah are Congress defectors who switched allegiance to BJP. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed the win as a reaffirmation of the public's trust in the BJP government.
Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari, however, described the narrow victory as a moral defeat for the BJP, accusing them of misusing state resources in the election. Meanwhile, the campaign's rollercoaster saw Invati initially leading until the 17th round of counting, before Shah overtook him in the final rounds. Shah's victory sparked celebrations among BJP workers and leaders.
