Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday leveled accusations against the ruling BJP, alleging that the party has humiliated the judiciary. Soren voiced hope that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in judicial custody related to the excise policy case, would be released soon.
Soren made these remarks while engaging with reporters after his meeting with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence in Delhi. He mentioned that he had come to meet Gandhi since he hadn't seen her following his own release from jail.
"Discussions for the Jharkhand Assembly elections will continue... Indians are very tolerant and cooperative; they tolerate a lot until they cannot, and then they make themselves heard by voting. The BJP has humiliated the judiciary. I hope Arvind Kejriwal will be granted bail soon," Soren stated. Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on Friday in money laundering charges linked to the excise policy case. However, he remains in jail due to a separate arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the Prevention of Corruption Act connected to the same case.
Soren himself was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28 after nearly five months in custody, following bail from the Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case tied to an alleged land scam. On July 8, days after being sworn in as Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the third time, Soren secured a vote of confidence with 45 MLAs supporting him during a special session of the state assembly.
In a previous video message, Soren had accused the BJP of making false allegations against him. He asserted that his party's mandate in the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly Elections had been unsettling for some, leading to what he described as unjust actions by the BJP to remove him from office. Despite these challenges, Soren reaffirmed his dedication to being the voice of the people and ensuring their needs are addressed.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), led by Soren, had formed an alliance with Congress and Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) in the 2019 assembly elections, securing a comfortable majority with forty-seven seats in the 81-member house.
