In a significant turn of events in Nepalese politics, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' failed to secure a trust vote in the House of Representatives on Friday. The prime minister received only 63 votes out of the 275-member House, with 194 members voting against him.

This political development has prompted President Ram Chandra Paudel to consult with constitutional and legal experts to determine the way forward, in accordance with Article 77-3 of the Constitution. The President has requested Prachanda to continue in a caretaker capacity until a new government is established.

The failure of Prachanda to secure the trust vote is expected to pave the way for a new coalition government led by former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. The new government will likely be formed by Oli's Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Nepali Congress (NC), which together hold a majority in the House.
