Mali Junta Lifts Suspension on Political Parties Amid Peace Efforts

This move comes after the completion of a national dialogue for peace, despite the country's ongoing battle against jihadist insurgency and political instability under military rule since August 2020.

Mali's military junta has lifted the suspension on political party activities that was originally introduced to safeguard public order, according to the council of ministers on Wednesday.
The suspension, which was imposed in April just before a national peace dialogue, aimed to address threats of public disorder. With a focus now on implementing dialogue recommendations, political parties can resume operations, the government stated.
The junta, which came into power after a 2021 coup, had previously postponed elections indefinitely, leading to public outcry for a return to constitutional governance. The region has faced multiple coups and battles against jihadist insurgencies linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State.
