Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday criticized the decision to suspend Ambadas Danve, the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra legislative council, labeling it a one-sided and premeditated conspiracy.

Speaking to reporters, Thackeray expressed disappointment that Danve was not given a chance to present his case before the suspension was enforced.

Thackeray, while apologizing for Danve's remarks if they hurt women, questioned why no action was taken against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena leaders who made similar remarks outside the House.

He stressed the need for a discussion on the resolution to suspend Danve, lamenting the lack of debate.

Thackeray suggested the suspension was timed to detract from his party's recent legislative council poll victories by candidates Anil Parab and Jagannath Abhyankar.

"The conspiracy to suspend Danve was a planned conspiracy," Thackeray repeated.

He further criticized the government, asserting, "Whatever you (government) do is democracy, and act by us (opposition) a crime."

Thackeray also pointed out that the suspension occurred while the opposition was scrutinizing the state budget.

The Maharashtra legislative council suspended Danve for five days on Tuesday for using abusive language in the House.

Danve was accused of using offensive language against BJP legislator Prasad Lad during a debate on Monday evening. Lad had called for a resolution condemning Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's comments, provoking a sharp response from Danve.

On Tuesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil introduced a motion to suspend Danve, which passed by majority vote.
