The Maharashtra unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened a marathon meeting to strategize for the forthcoming state assembly elections, sources reported on Saturday.

The assembly elections, likely set for October, prompted a five-hour-long discussion on Friday night covering campaign plans and strategy finalization. Maharashtra's BJP seat count had fallen significantly in the recent Lok Sabha elections, from 23 to nine seats. The ruling Mahayuti coalition, which includes BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP, secured only 17 out of 48 seats, compared to the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi's (MVA) 30 seats.

According to a BJP source, "Our initial meeting, lasting for five hours, discussed the preliminary blueprint for the assembly polls. Finalizing the action plan will require further meetings." Prominent party members such as Union Minister Piyush Goyal, BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde, and State President Chandrashekar Bawankule attended the core committee meeting. Additionally, seat-sharing talks with allies are planned for a later stage.

The BJP currently holds 104 seats in the 288-member House, while the undivided Shiv Sena had previously won 56 seats in alliance with BJP back in 2019. However, the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction severed ties post a dispute over the chief minister's role.
