An FIR has been lodged against Congress leader Salman Khurshid and Samajwadi Party leader Maria Alam Khan for allegedly seeking votes on "religious lines". Notably, Maria Alam Khan is the niece of Salman Khurshid.

The case has been registered in Kayamganj Police Station in Fatehgarh district under sections 188 and 295(A) of the Indian Penal Code. Farrukhabad SP Vikas Kumar said, "A video of Maria Alam Khan, an SP leader, is going viral on social media, where she is seen asking for votes on religious grounds. This is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. A written report was submitted at PS Kayamganj... The investigation will proceed accordingly."

Farrukhabad DM Dr VK Singh said, "Yesterday, Salman Khurshid and SP leader Maria Alam Khan were addressing a public rally in Kayamganj, during which Maria Alam Khan asked the minority community to go for vote jihad. Prima facie, she tried to increase the gap between the two communities... This is a violation of sections 188, 295, and section 125 of the RP Act..."
