As Liberia is combating to develop its education sector to be at par with the global standard, one education developer revealed that the country needs to be stabilized by employing the right and qualified teachers.

According to Moses Blonkanjay Jackson, the government of Liberia requires pushing more effort in stabilizing the education sector that has turned into a fiasco. “Out of the 44,000 (the current figure of teachers in Liberia), there are little over 22,000 unqualified teachers in our classrooms that need to be trained,” as reported by Front Page Africa.

Moses Blonkanjay Jackson emphasized that many of the teachers in the classrooms lack the ability to prepare their own lesson plan and present lecture to students. “We need to work on that if we are serious to improve this sector. We even have teachers who ask student for sex for grades, some demand money from students, the interesting part about it is that many of them are not even able to dress, their dress code is bad,” the Chief Executive Officer of Diversified Educators Empowerment Project added.

On the other hand, the government of Liberia is giving its effort in the process of developing the country’s education system. The construction of a modern school at a cost of USD 78,000 is an example of the development in the education sector.

According to Construction Review Online, the facility will be named after the International Consultant Capital’s Chief Executive Officer, McDonald Wento, for fulfilling his promise made at the onset of the company’s operation in the Gbi and Doru Administrative District. The school is one of the modern schools in the district, next to the school built by Senator Thomas Grupee, which is located in Glann Town, about 50 kilometers away. It will be a modern six-classroom school building that will include a solar panel that could power several computers and light up the building.

The company will everything to furnish the school and help with other supplies. It is also working through the Community Forest Development Committee to undertake other developments, including a guest house, clinics and hand pumps in the district.
