The spokesperson of Renamo, the main opposition party in Mozambique, has expressed its satisfaction with the permanent appointment of its three officials to key positions in Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM).

The three top commanders were sworn in on February 11 as director of the operations, director of the military information and director of the communications in the General Staff of FADM. “Mozambicans learned that this is a permanent nomination of those that had been temporarily nominated and the Mozambicans applauded the gesture,” said the party spokesperson Jose Manteigas during a press conference, Renamo’s spokesperson Jose Gabriel Manteigas during a press conference. He is a member of parliament with Renamo from the Zambezia Province.

Renamo’s spokesperson also recalled that there are still 11 nominations left for generals as part of the agreement between the government and Renamo, a step in the process towards longstanding peace and comprehensive reconciliation. “We are hopeful that very soon, in the name of peace and national reconciliation, with the acceleration of the negotiations process, the 11 remaining officials will be nominated,” Jose Gabriel Manteigas added, as reported by Xinhua.
