The festival though now observed in most parts of India, is primarily celebrated in the central and western regions of Madhya Pradesh, and the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Odisha.
