Missing-arms case: NIA attaches Manipur MLA's assets

New Delhi [India], Feb 8 (ANI): The National Investigative Agency (NIA) has attached immovable properties of worth Rs 76 lakh belonging to Congress MLA from Manipur Yamthong Haokip in connection with the missing-arms case of 2nd MR.

Haokip, an MLA from Saikul Constituency of Manipur, was last year arrested in the missing-arms case by the  NIA.  The plots of land, which have been attached by NIA are registered in the name of Yamthong Haokip MLA and his wife  Sapam Charubala Devi.  The NIA has attached the residential house of the MLA as the property constituted proceeds of terrorism as defined in section 25 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The investigative agency has been probing the case of missing 56 nine mm pistols from the DG armoury located inside the premises of 2nd Manipur Rifles Battalion. During the investigation, 20 nine mm pistols have been recovered, including one from the residential premises of Haokip. NIA filed first charge sheet against the eight accused in the case last year.

Subsequently, NIA has filed a supplementary charge sheet on  January 25, 2019, against MLA Haokip, David Hangshing (Chairman of Kuki Revolutionary Army), Lhunkhoson Haokip (Chairman of United Kuki Liberation front) and Th Diamond Singh (Driver of MLA Saikul). All the accused persons are presently in Judicial Custody.  (ANI)
