UP Directed to Extend 1% Quota to NCC B Grade Certificate Holders by Allahabad High Court

The Allahabad High Court has ordered the Uttar Pradesh administration to allocate one percent reservation for NCC B grade certificate holders. The court highlighted the impracticality of the existing system, requiring a C certificate for reservation, which could only be obtained post-graduation.

The Allahabad High Court has mandated that the Uttar Pradesh government grant a one percent reservation to those holding a National Cadet Corps (NCC) B grade certificate. This was a significant move aimed at widening opportunities for cadet certificate holders.

The court's ruling also urged the National Testing Agency to reach out to eligible candidates via email ahead of rescheduled examinations, ensuring they have time to submit their credentials. Previously, the state only recognized NCC candidates with a C grade certificate for such a reservation. The bench, featuring Justice Arindam Sinha and Justice Satya Veer Singh, critiqued the current system as illogical, since a C certificate is normally obtained after graduation, thereby limiting the effectiveness of the reservation policy.
