Tensions boiled over outside Pinarayi Vijayan's rented residence on Wednesday as Enforcement Directorate officials wrapped up a search operation. The scene turned chaotic when suspected CPI(M) members assailed vehicles departing the premises, including the one carrying ED officials, amidst police attempts to control the crowd.
The uproar was captured live as protesters, believed to be from CPI(M) and its allies, gathered in large numbers to voice their dissent against the ongoing investigations. Soon after officials, accompanied by central security personnel, exited the premises, the crowd became aggressive, inflicting damage on vehicles by hurling stones, bricks, and even rotten eggs.
Amidst the chaos, a driver was injured, prompting the ED team to file a complaint at Thampanoor police station. Law enforcement and central security officers faced challenges in dispersing the protestors, who resorted to aggressive measures including throwing helmets and plastic bottles during the ED's search.
The confrontation highlighted the tense atmosphere surrounding the investigation and the political animosity towards central agencies perceived to be targeting opposition figures.
