In a significant development, the West Bengal Police have initiated an FIR against Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee over alleged inflammatory statements during the recent assembly elections.
The legal action was prompted by a complaint from social activist Rajib Sarkar, filed on May 5, at Baguiati Police Station in North 24 Parganas district, just a day after the declaration of election results.
The allegations suggest that Banerjee's statements, made between April 27 and May 3, had the potential to disturb public peace and were ostensibly linked to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The investigation is ongoing under relevant legal provisions.
