In a significant legal development, the Delhi High Court, under Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, has commenced criminal contempt proceedings against several AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, following accusations of social media vilification regarding the excise policy case.
Justice Sharma stated that former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal orchestrated a campaign of defamation against her rather than using available legal options. Concerns were raised about misleading and edited videos attributed to her, suggesting political bias.
While transferring the case to another bench, Justice Sharma emphasized that attempts to undermine the court's authority under the guise of free speech are unacceptable. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta expressed gratitude for Justice Sharma's efforts to maintain the court's dignity.
