The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday extended interim protection from coercive measures for Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak until May 15. The court's decision follows a request by the state of Punjab for more time to file a response.
Pathak, who switched allegiance from the Aam Aadmi Party to the BJP, is seeking a court directive requiring the Punjab government to disclose all details regarding two FIRs purportedly registered against him. He also seeks an order to prevent his arrest while the case is ongoing.
Concerns have been raised about potential political motivations behind the FIRs, which Pathak's petition describes as part of a calculated political vendetta. The plea comes amidst Pathak’s recent defection along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs from AAP to BJP, a move criticized within political circles.
