In a notable decision, a Delhi court has acquitted Anwar of attempting to murder a police constable, citing insufficient scientific evidence to support the prosecutorial claims. The court highlighted discrepancies between police testimony and the physical evidence submitted.
Despite the acquittal on the charge of attempted murder, Anwar was convicted under the Arms Act for illegal possession of a weapon and ammunition. Additional Sessions Judge Harvinder Singh noted the lack of hammer marks on the cartridge, which contradicted the police's assertion that the weapon had been fired.
While the prosecution alleged that Anwar attempted to shoot a constable with a malfunctioning pistol, the Forensic Science Laboratory determined the firearm was fully operational. Anwar's acquittal under Section 307 of the IPC was underscored by these findings, although the court upheld a conviction regarding illegal possession.
