German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has urged Europeans to assume greater responsibility for their own security following the U.S. decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has called for European nations to take a more significant role in ensuring their security following the announcement of U.S. plans to withdraw 5,000 troops stationed in Germany.

Pistorius noted that Germany is making strides in this regard, citing efforts to expand its Bundeswehr armed forces, accelerate equipment procurement, and build necessary infrastructure. This comes as European NATO members, including Germany, face criticism over defence spending and pledge to bolster their military responsibilities.

Despite tight budgets and significant capability gaps, Pistorius emphasized the importance of maintaining American military presence in Europe, especially Germany, for mutual interests, although acknowledging the foreseeable nature of the U.S. troop withdrawal.
