Kolkata city police have imposed a nighttime ban on motorbike movement starting April 27, in preparation for the assembly polls scheduled for April 29. This action follows directives from the Chief Electoral Officer aimed at ensuring smooth and peaceful voting procedures.

Motorbikes will not be allowed on the streets from 6 pm to 6 am, barring medical emergencies, family needs, or school-related activities. Additionally, pillion riding is prohibited during the day, except for specified purposes such as voting on election day, where family members are allowed as pillions.

The restrictions encompass the Kolkata metropolitan region and areas of South 24 Parganas under Kolkata Police's jurisdiction. The decision is strategically aimed at deterring any forms of voter intimidation or incidents disrupting the election process.
