Hong Kong's Corruption Crackdown: Arrests in Deadly Apartment Fire Renovation Case

In a significant move, Hong Kong's anti-corruption agency has announced the arrest of eight people linked to the renovation of high-rise apartments involved in a catastrophic blaze that claimed the lives of 128 individuals.
The arrested group, consisting of seven men and one woman aged 40 to 63, includes scaffolding subcontractors, directors from an engineering consultancy, and project managers responsible for overseeing the renovation. This development was confirmed by the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
On Friday, officials conducted searches at the agency's offices, gathering relevant documents and banking records as part of the widening investigation. The inquiry into potential corrupt practices in the renovation project commenced following the tragic fire.
