A Sudanese national, Deng Chol Majek, has been convicted of the brutal murder of a 27-year-old woman, Rhiannon Whyte, who worked at a hotel for asylum seekers in central England. British prosecutors confirmed the conviction on Friday.
Majek, aged 19, followed Whyte to a railway station after her shift last October, attacking her with a screwdriver and inflicting 23 stab wounds to her head, chest, and arm. Onlookers reported seeing Majek later celebrating his actions, captured on footage laughing and dancing.
The conviction was secured based on DNA evidence, witness testimonies, and CCTV footage showing Majek trailing Whyte to the station. He was also convicted of possessing an offensive weapon. Majek will be sentenced at a forthcoming hearing, according to prosecutors.
